Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year!

Hello Families of Ms. Fogg's 1st grade classes,

I'm so excited for the new school year! This blog is a resource for you and your child and I'll update it throughout the year as needed. Please take a look at the different pages on this blog and let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. The best way to have regular communication with me is through the app Seesaw. This is also how you can receive pictures of your students as well as pictures and recordings of what they're doing in school. I'll send you an invitation to Seesaw the first week of school.

My teaching philosophy is one of universal success through kindness, inclusiveness, communication and collaboration. All learners (regardless of age) only take chances when they feel respected, loved, and supported. This is especially true for young people. Basically, I admire and strive to be like Mr. Rogers (as best I can :).  I set high standards and set clear expectations for all my students. I also provide multiple resources and model how they can solve problems by themselves and with each other. It is through this that I hope they recognize the agency they possess in their own learning as well as their ability to change our world for the better. Below I have a few articles that I really appreciate as a teacher.

Please feel free to contact me in person at school (8am-3:30pm Mon-Fri) or anytime via Seesaw or e-mail (jfogg@pps.net). I will respond to messages during school hours.

Sincerely,
Julia Fogg

This is a beautiful article about "that kid" in the classroom. It gives good information about confidentiality and empathy.

I proudly teach ALL students. My classroom is a safe space for all students as well as their families. This is one of the resources I use to support social justice teaching in the classroom.
