Homework Policy

Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood. -Fred Rogers

For young learners, the most important homework is spending quality time with family and friends, becoming more independent, unplugging, reading, and playing as much as possible!

Therefore, the only homework I will provide to all students is a weekly reading log. The point of this log is to encourage a love of reading. This includes listening to reading, listening to stories, and reading "just right" books. It should not be a stress or a struggle. Please let me know if it is.

If your student has specific goals that would benefit from additional home practice, I may provide as-needed, individual practice. I will always keep families informed as to what we're studying in school via Seesaw.

Here are some enriching homework alternatives:
Board games, puzzles, cooking, art classes, music lessons, sports teams, after-school classes at Woodstock, dance, outside play, visiting family, bookmaking, journaling, volunteering, visiting local parks and museums, workbooks, calligraphy, origami, art projects, and even chores! If your child doesn't yet know how to tie their own shoes, this is a great year to teach them! :)
